Ability Hosts First Amputee Support Group in Frederick, Maryland
February 2009
Ability Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc. in partnership with the Frederick Memorial
Hospital, will host its first Amputee Support Group on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in
Frederick. The meeting will be held at the Frederick Memorial Hospital Wellness Center
located within the Francis Scott Key Mall. A guest speaker will headline the evening’s
activities. The Amputee Support Group is open to all amputees, family members and
health care professionals to learn and to share experiences, knowledge and concerns.
According to John P. Jacobs, Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist (CPO) at the Ability
patient care center in Frederick, MD, “This is the first support group meeting for
amputees in the North Central Maryland region. A lot of people have questions that
go beyond what their prosthetist can address,” said Jacobs, “It’s all about quality
of life and awareness. We find there is a need for peer counseling. We’re getting
people with similar challenges together for the first time to see what issues are
out there and how we can help address them.”
The next amputee support group meeting will be held in June. Please contact John Jacobs
for more information @ 301-698-4692.
