Ability PO is able to provide and fit custom designed and made lower and upper limb spinal and foot orthotic devices. Ability PO is committed to providing all patients with the most appropriate, affordable and technologically advanced orthotic items. Jeffrey Brandt, CEO and founder/owner/practitioner of Ability PO, says that the other co-owners and the talented and caring team take great pride in being at the forefront of Prosthetics and Orthotics firms making those advances available to patients to improve the quality of life through efficient and comfortable standing, walking, and working.
On Wednesday, June 24, Teresa Slick became the first person in South Central Pennsylvania and one of only a dozen nationwide to be fitted with a custom E-Mag Active electronic stance phase control orthotic brace.
This orthotic device is cutting-edge technology that includes a knee joint that "bionically locks and unlocks" when the patient needs the support and stability at both the ankle and knee. The revolutionary fitting of the orthotic device took place at Ability PO's patient care center in Gettysburg. Teresa was fitted with the orthotic brace thirteen years after a car accident left her disabled. The Ability PO fitted orthotic leg brace will allow Teresa to get out of her wheelchair and enjoy her yard, cooking, sewing, and painting, and help to relieve the pain and back fatigue she has endured for so long.
For Ability PO the fitting of the E-Mag Active orthotic device marks a series of recent "firsts." Ability PO was also the first prosthetic office in Philadelphia to fit an i-LIMB bionic hand on a patient. Currently, Ability PO is fitting nine patients with i-LIMB hands and four with the E-Mag Active orthotic braces. The E-Mag Active orthotic device, which is available only in the United States, calibrates itself to understand how patients walk and then adjusts to meet the patient's stability needs. Ability PO informs that this technology will give patients greater mobility, flexibility, and independence than they have previously enjoyed.
The gifted and highly qualified team of Ability PO includes John P. Jacobs who is an American Board for Certification (ABC) certified orthotist and prosthetist who became interested in the orthotic profession while working as a nuclear medicine technologist. John chose to explore this interest further by visiting several orthotic and prosthetic facilities. He was impressed by the independence patients received when provided with an orthotic brace or artificial limb. Jeffrey T. Quelet, CPO, owner and practitioner of Ability PO, is an ABC Prosthetist and Orthotistand, is currently a member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP) as well as the American Prosthetic & Orthotic Association (AOPA) and his goal is to provide the highest level of orthotic care service and education to patients. T. Clayton Barrow, Chief Operations Officer and Vice President of Ability PO, is an ABC Orthotist, Jared Howell, AAOP, Wendy A Carter, certified Mastectomy/orthotic fitter, and Rebecca K. Rogers is a Board Eligible CP/resident CO to complete the Ability PO team.
