Rebecca K. Ferris, CP, Board Eligible CO
 |
Becky K. Ferris is an American Board of Certification (ABC) Certified Prosthetist and Board-Eligible Orthotist who became interested in the field while working in the Center for Locomotion Studies (CELOS) at Penn State University. Becky first encountered Orthotics while working as a Teacher’s Assistant at the Child Career and Development Center in Coatesville, PA. Her first encounter with Prosthetics occurred later while working in the Human Performance Laboratory at the University of Delaware. It was towards the end of her college varsity softball career that Becky decided she wanted to succeed in something other than sports. Research in Biomechanics was where she first looked for a career. However, the desire for more interpersonal interaction and immediate impact on peoples’ lives drove Becky to pursue a career as a Certified Orthotist-Prosthetist. Becky graduated from Penn State in 2005 with a B. Sc. in Kinesiology.
In the summer of 2005, Becky enrolled in the Orthotics and Prosthetics Master’s program at Eastern Michigan University. As a graduate assistant, Becky participated in research and device design both at the University of Michigan’s Orthotics and Prosthetics Center and the Human Neuromechanics Laboratory, and started the Eastern Michigan University Orthotics and Prosthetics Student Organization. Becky graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 2007 with certificates in Orthotics and Prosthetics. She looks to complete her Master’s degree in O & P.

Becky became certified in the M.A.S. ® in 2006. The M.A.S. ® is an evolution in socket design that incorporates concepts of ischial containment (IC) and increased hip range of motion in the sagittal plane. In February of 2008, Becky received her Certificate of Completion in preparation for Certification in Mastectomy Fitting.
Becky completed her prosthetics residency in 2008 with Hanger O&P in Wethersfield, Connecticut just miles from the Newington O&P Certificate program. Becky attended prosthetics clinics at Hartford Hospital and the Newington VA. She received training with the Insignia scanner and 3-D image modification for both socket design and semi-rigid removable dressing design for immediate post-operative amputation care.
Becky is currently a member of the Ghana Medical Rehabilitation Group (GMRG), a non-profit organization formulating plans to provide health care services to the people of Ghana. Becky is involved from abroad with the University of Michigan Amputee Support Group.
As a practitioner with Ability Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc., it is Becky’s goal to provide the highest level of Prosthetic and Orthotic patient care and education, and to incorporate on-going research studies into Ability’s residency program.
