June 2008

Ability Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc. is pleased to announce that for the second summer in a row, the company will provide an internship. Both this year and last, the students have come from Penn State University's Engineering Program. Both students have been accepted into doctoral programs for this fall.

"This informal program we started has become a nice "bridge internship"," explains Jeffrey M. Brandt, CEO & founder of Ability Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc., "Since the graduate programs don't start until the fall, it is a nice fit for the students. They get a summer job, with valuable exposure to the clinical application of engineering in and an introduction to the business side of orthotics and prosthetics."

The Ability practitioners enjoy the extra help and fresh ideas. "It is a win-win," says Jeffrey T. Quelet, CPO & VP of Ability, "These students offer a fresh look at quantifying outcomes and posing research questions and solutions. Regardless of what area of engineering they are pursuing, they are intrigued by the latest advancements in our profession. For us, this program serves as a foundation for our future aspirations for a product research and development division."
