John P. Jacobs, CPO Prosthetist-Orthotist
 | John P. Jacobs is an American Board for Certification (ABC) certified orthotist and prosthetist who became interested in the profession while working as a nuclear medicine technologist, upon graduating with a BS in nuclear medicine from the State University of New York at Buffalo. In this role, he was exposed to amputees requiring prosthetic care. Desiring a more rewarding career within the allied health field, John chose to explore this interest further by visiting several orthotic and prosthetic facilities. He was impressed by the independence patients received when provided with a brace or artificial limb.
John graduated from the University of Connecticut's Orthotic and Prosthetic program in 1999 and completed his orthotic residency in South Carolina with Palmetto Prosthetics & Orthotics and was involved in coordinating and running a pediatric clinic and providing O&P services for the McLeod Regional Medical Center and the Carolina Hospital System.

In 2004, John completed his prosthetics training also through the University of Connecticut, which was followed by a residency at Central Brace and Prosthetics, located in Lexington, Kentucky. In addition to providing prosthetic care within 4 hospitals in the greater Lexington area, he had an opportunity to coordinate numerous O & P outreach clinics to service rural mountain areas of Kentucky.
John is currently a member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP), the AAOP's Lower Limb Prosthetics Society and the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA). John has recently become certified to fit both the Ossur Proprio foot/ankle module as well as Otto Bock's microprocessor C-leg for above-knee or transfemoral amputees.
As a practitioner of Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics' newly opened Frederick, Maryland patient care facility, John is eager to provide the highest level of care, service and education to the patients, referral sources and third party payors of northern Maryland.
