Kirk L. Ferris, CPO Prosthetist-Orthotist

Kirk L. Ferris, CPO, is an American Board for Certification (ABC) Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist who first became interested in the field while working as a high school co-op student in Ann Arbor Michigan. While working as a Prosthetic and Orthotic Technician, Kirk acquired his Associates degree from Washtenaw Community College in 1992. Continuing his education Kirk enrolled in Florida International University's college of health Majoring in Prosthetics and Orthotics. In April of 1994 Kirk graduated with a B.S in Prosthetics and Orthotics.

In 1995, Kirk completed his prosthetic residency in a private Prosthetic and Orthotic facility in Ann Arbor Michigan. Kirk participated in monthly amputee clinics in the Ann Arbor area, as well as being involved and speaking at local amputee support groups.

Kirk became certified to provide the "Pathfinder" foot and ankle systems in 2001. In 2002 he became certified in the Harmony system, a vacuum assisted suction socket specifically designed to reduce volume fluctuation in amputees. In 2004 Kirk became certified in the STARbandT Cranial Remolding Orthosis. The STARbandT is a custom cranial remolding orthosis used to treat deformational plagiocephaly, brachycephaly and other head shape deformities in infants 3-18 months of age.

In 2005, Kirk became certified in providing the "Rheo knee", a microprocessor controlled knee-shin system for above-knee amputees. And in 2006, Kirk was certified in the M.A.S ®. The M.A.S. ® socket design is an evolution--and perhaps even a "revolution"--in the development of ischial containment socket design.

Kirk is currently a member of the Ghana Medical Rehabilitation Group (GMRG), A non-profit organization formulating plans to provide health care services to the people of Ghana.

Kirk's goal to provide the highest level of care, service and education to the patients, referral sources and third party payers of western/northern Maryland and south/central Pennsylvania.
