Ability Supports the Orthotic & Prosthetic Assistance Fund (OPAF) through the Dale Yasukawa Memorial Fund Scholarship

February 2007

In November 2001, OPAF with the Midwest Chapter of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP) established a scholarship fund in the name of Dale Yasukawa, CP for a student of the Northwestern University's Prosthetic & Orthotic Program. Yasukawa, who died suddenly at the age of 43, served as Director of Prosthetics at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) in the Department of Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinical Services.

Dale Yasukawa, CP, had been both an RIC colleague and a mentor to Jeffrey Brandt, CPO, Ability President and CEO. "One of the most notable attributes of Dale," states Jeffrey, "was his consistent, honest nature, not to mention his dedication to the orthotics and prosthetics profession."

This year, Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics, Inc. has made a contribution to the scholarship. "This donation not only allows us to give to the profession by supporting an excellent training program" adds Jeffrey, "as it allows us to honor a great person."

This scholarship program is currently open to all full-time certificate candidates enrolled in Northwestern University's Prosthetic Orthotic Center (NUPOC).
