Joe Kuhns is the embodiment of possibility. A few years ago, a gunshot wound from a hunting accident resulted in a below-the-knee amputation of his left leg.
Today, with the help of Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics, he silenced all doubts he’d ever walk again.
Finding Strength Through Mobility
Joe’s story of regaining mobility began in our York, PA office. Working with the team at Ability, including Marlies Beerli Cabell, CPO and Ramen Landon, CP, MPO, Joe found a solution that best fit his body, and more importantly, his lifestyle.
“They explain the options as best as they can, and they help you make the best decisions,” he says.
Joe’s BiOM Prosthetic Ankle
We fitted Joe with the only prosthesis featuring powered propulsion: the BiOM Ankle.
This lower limb prosthesis uses the latest technology to help Joe gain independence, strength, and mobility. It uses robotics to mimic the calf muscle, making it the only ankle prosthesis to function without relying on the wearer’s energy.
Yet to Joe, it was less about the astounding technology, and more about successfully redefining his limits.
A Powerhouse of Possibility
Years ago, Joe’s accident put his mobility in jeopardy. Now, he’s a testament that amputees are capable of anything.
