Erin Meyers, CPO
Certified Prosthetist Orthotist
Erin Meyers is a Certified Prosthetist Orthotist, who first became interested in orthotics and prosthetics while working in special effects makeup in the movie industry. In a chance encounter with a prosthetist, she discovered a lot of the skills she garnered translated to those used in the orthotic and prosthetic industry. This prompted her to seek out more information about the profession and led her to enroll in the Prosthetic Technician School at Century College in White Bear Lake, MN.
While Erin enjoyed the technical aspects of prosthetics, she ultimately wished to work directly with patients. Thus, Erin was accepted into the Prosthetic Practitioner Program at California State University Dominguez Hills in Aliso Viejo, CA. While in attendance at Cal State, Erin was able to participate in variety activities, including the OSSUR Leg Amputee Running and Mobility Clinic during the Challenge Athletes Foundation’s San Diego Triathlon Challenge. This opportunity enabled her to work with high activity level amputees as they learned to run on their prostheses. Additionally, Erin participated in an amputee surf clinic sponsored by the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
After completing the Prosthetics Practitioner Program, Erin accepted a residency at a private facility in Dayton, Ohio. During her residency, Erin got a chance to get intensive experience in the Elevated Vacuum Locking Systems by PDI. Her residency also gave her an outlet to sharpen her patient care skills.
Upon completion of her residency, Erin returned California State University to pursue her practitioner certificate in orthotics. During her time at California State University Dominguez Hills in Long Beach, she participated in the ACA Conference Gait Clinic and again attended the OSSUR Leg Amputee Running and Mobility Clinic during the Challenge Athletes Foundation’s San Diego Triathlon.
In 2011, Erin joined Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics, Inc. in the Frederick, Maryland patient care facility to complete her orthotics residency. After completing the residency, she succesfully became a certified orthotist and is currently working out of the Hagerstown, MD office. Erin is a member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP); she has been able to attend both National Academy meetings and the Ohio Chapter meetings. She attended the academy seminar on Sub-atmospheric Suspension Systems: Clinical Applications, Evidence and Reimbursement.
