Sarah M. Wooden, CPO Prosthetist - Orthotist

Sarah M. Wooden, CPO, practice manager of Ability's newly opened, ABC-accredited, patient care facility in York, Pa., is an ABC Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist. While pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Services from Springfield College, her interest in the orthotics and prosthetics field was sparked by a guest lecturer from Newington Children's Hospital.

Upon completion of her bachelor’s degree in 1999, she was accepted to the Orthotics program at the University of Connecticut. She completed her orthotic residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in 2001, where she saw a diverse patient population. During her residency, her love of pediatrics began, as she treated pathologies, such as idiopathic toe walking, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, torticollis, plagiocephaly and both neuromuscular and idiopathic scoliosis.

Upon the completion of her residency, she relocated to Virginia Beach, VA where she worked for Progressive Prosthetics and Orthopedic Services as a Certified Orthotist. Her service there included many local area hospitals, including Sentara's Level One Trauma Center and Children's Hospital For King's Daughter's in Norfolk, VA.

In 2005, Sarah continued her education through the prosthetics program at the University of Connecticut. After completing her training in 2006, she began a prosthetics residency at Creative Orthotics and Prosthetics in upstate New York, where she could live nearer to family.

Sarah quickly transitioned into the role of Practice Manager of the Utica, NY location, where her pediatric background was most rewarding, as she could treat children from rural areas. Due to the unique demands of rural care, her treatment settings came in many ways, including the office, the clinic, the nursing home, patients’ own homes or even within the school system.

Sarah has additional certifications for the pediatric population to provide the Charleston bending brace and the SWASH (Standing, Waking and Sitting Hip Orthosis). She has also received certifications for the Pathfinder foot, Rheo knee, C-leg, the Walk-aide and other technologically advanced devices. She is currently a member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP), American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) and the Association of Children’s Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC).

She is pleased to become a member of Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics, Inc. and is looking forward to the growth and development of the York office. Her trauma, out-patient and pediatric experiences will allow her to service those in need at York Hospital and surrounding communities with both timely and confident care.
