Limb Disassembly Day Philadelphia, PA
January 21, 2019
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
USciences students are teaming up with Ability Prosthetics & Orthotics, a Philadelphia regional provider of prosthetics and orthotics, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 21, 2019 from 1-3 p.m. on our University City campus. Students from the University’s physical therapy and occupational therapy programs will be disassembling old and unused prosthetics and orthotics donated to Ability.
The parts of these devices will be sent to the Range of Motion Project’s Components for A Cause Program, which provides care to patients without access to rehabilitative care in Guatemala, Mexico, Ecuador and the United States.
This experience provides USciences physical therapy and occupational therapy students a new perspective on rehabilitative care and the patient need and provides a connection between them and future patients who have limited access.
Representatives from Ability will be on hand at the event and working with the students as they disassemble the devices. This is also a learning opportunity as students will hear more about rehabilitative services using prosthetics and orthotics and the devices available.
