Brian Kaluf, CP
Clinical Outcome and Research Director

Brian Kaluf, CP, is an American Board for Certification (ABC) certified prosthetist who first became interested in the prosthetic and orthotic field while earning his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University.
While shadowing an experienced practitioner and visiting with patients in Chicago, IL, Brian realized he could apply his knowledge, skills, and aptitudes to improving patients’ lives.
After earning his bachelor’s degree, Brian conducted research in Germany at the Computer Simulation of Human Motion laboratory at the University of Stuttgart, receiving a position at the well-respected Fraunhofer Institute to design a high activity bionic prosthetic foot.
Brian then sought a world-renowned education in prosthetics at Northwestern University, followed by a residency at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. While in residency, Brian became exposed to a broad range of prosthesis patients and cutting-edge technologies.
After serving as a managing practitioner at Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics for five years, Brian took on the role as Ability’s clinical outcomes and research director.
Brian’s research interest helps improve patient evaluations through outcome measures. This work has led to many conference presentations that summarize clinical approaches and results. Brian’s current research strategy involves performing grant-funded and commercially funded comparative effectiveness research to analyze the benefit of various prosthetic components on patient mobility.
Ongoing research projects at Ability allow Brian to continue to contribute to Ability’s outcome-focused approach. In addition, Brian recently authored chapters focused on outcome measures to two textbooks.
