COVID-19 Recommended actions for patient care clinics
Update: COVID-19 Recommended actions for patient care clinics
With the spreading of the Corona virus we as Ottobock need to take some steps in order
to reduce the risk of infection. As a service provider dealing with health-impaired
people these steps are necessary to protect our patients and our staff members
Follow the policy of your local authorities regarding COVID-19 and the recommended
health and safety measures for your region/country.
There are three questions used in order to determine if patients might be affected by
COVID-19. If you are operating in an area with confirmed cases of COVID-19 it is
best to contact patients via telephone prior to their appointment to answer these
questions. Otherwise, please inquire these points with patients at reception:
- Do you suffer from any of these symptoms: fever, cough or respiratory distress?
- Did you stay in a risk area within the last 14 days?
- Did you have contact with a confirmed case of novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) within the last 14 days?
If a patient replies any of these questions with “yes” it is advisable to postpone the
appointment by 14 days. If this is not possible due to urgent medical needs make sure
to treat the patient using sufficient protective measures (protective gown, mask,
googles and gloves) to avoid risk of infection. For information of how to don and doff
the personal protective equipment correctly, please have a look at the guidelines from
the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention:
Also always follow the usual hygiene recommendations to further mitigate the risk of
contamination: avoid shaking hands when greeting, keep a sufficient distance and
wash your hands thoroughly before and after any appointment.
